Soul Care Counseling
The apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 are instructive here: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” Soul care helps conform lives to the life of Jesus Christ so they reflect the image of God (Demarest, 2003; Johnson, 2007). All believers are hastened toward soul care with the command, “Above all else guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). Ultimately, the spiritual journey is navigated with the purpose of accomplishing what is at the heart of Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians—to reach out and comfort others with the comfort that we ourselves receive from God.
